L’éloquence des objets, maison de la culture Frontenac, Montréal (Canada) 2016
The title of the exhibition (The Eloquence of Objects) conveys the artist’s interest for investigating the character of what is expressive, meaningful and convincing even in the absence of words. With L’éloquence des objets, José Luis Torres analyzes the role played by everyday objects in our culture. He highlights the fact that these objects are also a means by which we access representations of ourselves.
Made of sculptural assemblies, the universe of this exhibition is bursting with playfulness and astonishment produced by highjacking and recomposition strategies. Having explored and applied various processes of manipulation, Torres presents us with singular situations shaped by method as well as by coincidence. The artist invites the visitor to enter his world and imagine the processes that have led to the final version of each staging.
