Securitas II, Urban Green: artscarp, Sam Lawrence Park, Hamilton, Ontario (Canada) 2017

In a time where all agree on putting safety first, Securitas II offers an unsettling visual experience and confronts visitors with their own anxieties. At first glance, a security enclosure fenced with metallic mesh stands out in the landscape. Its unusual presence catches the eye because of its relation with the natural surroundings. But the mysterious cubic container holds an even more unsettling content. Dozens of precious water jugs are stored in it.

The work confronts us with our obsession for safety. It evokes a fully protected place that guarantees our safety, yet it can also be interpreted as an apparatus that restricts our access to its content. In the landscape, this work strongly highlights the contradictions we face on a daily basis.
