Mutations, Latitude 53 Contemporary Visual Culture, Edmonton, Alberta - Canada (2015)

In this exhibition, I incorporate a wide variety of local materials gleaned on-site—including rugs, doors, and building supplies—to explore the conceptual boundaries framing art, architecture, and environment. Through these hybrid structures, I raise fundamental questions about our relationship to space: what intentionality and context are required before a house becomes a home, a block becomes a neighborhood, or a structure becomes a building? And if those intentions and contexts shift organically, how do we qualify the mutants they create? My intervention thrives on a continuous dialogue between the objective cartography of Edmonton's urban fabric and my own vibrant plastic subjectivity, repurposing discarded materials to challenge the logic of art-as-commodity. By recontextualizing these everyday fragments into an organic and evolving framework, my physical occupation of the gallery moves beyond a simple aesthetic proposal to stand as an act of resistance, survival, and identity assertion. I invite visitors into an active wanderment within these transitory networks, transforming the space into a laboratory for collective memory and poetic grounding.
