Mutations IV, Trap\door Artist Run Centre, Lethbridge, Alberta (Canada) 2014
The fruit of a research residency focused on territorial exploration and community exchange, this project occupies the main space through a staging of three-dimensional assemblages. These sculptural amalgams were created from disparate everyday objects, gleaned from local sharing centers or contributed directly by the public, selected for their plastic qualities and rich metaphorical weight. Through this living laboratory, the in situ intervention process unfolds as a profound self-portrait, where the sediments of daily life crystallize the layers of a permanent identity reconstruction. The artwork thrives on a continuous dialogue between the objective cartography of Lethbridge’s social fabric and a vibrant plastic subjectivity, repurposing materials to impose an intimate, poetic geography. By transmuting these fragments of collective memory into ephemeral structures, the physical occupation of space moves beyond a simple art installation; it stands as an act of resistance and identity assertion. The installation invites visitors into an active journey through an organic, evolving architecture, transforming the gallery into a shared territory for experimentation, collective memory, and poetic anchoring.
