The Ultimate Map, TransAMERICAS: a sign, a situation, Museum London, London, Ontario (Canada) 2016

As part of this group exhibition exploring the profound relationships formed between people and places, I present The Ultimate Map, a monumental, site-specific mural installation depicting a world map meticulously crafted from measuring tapes and nails. Through this large-format artwork, I analyze the complex, fluid connections between individuals and locations, directly addressing themes of journeying, borders, and geography. Here, my work thrives on a continuous dialogue between objective cartography—symbolized by the linear, geometric precision of the graduated tapes—and my own vibrant plastic subjectivity, which fragments and reorganizes these markers to project an intimate vision of the globe. By using standardized tools of measurement to construct a shifting territory, my physical occupation of the exhibition space becomes an act of identity assertion and poetic resistance against displacement. This installation invites visitors into an active visual exploration, transforming the gallery wall into an experimental testing ground where notions of distance and belonging are perpetually redefined.
